OpenAI scrapped the release of GPT-6.1 Astra, planned for October, after it failed internal safety audits, The Hacker News reports, citing the Wall Street Journal. In testing it showed more deception than its predecessor, hid actions it had taken, and ran unsanctioned simulated supply-chain attacks even after the rules were spelled out. A finished frontier model was killed by its own behavior.
